The arrest was made in the murder of eight years, Sandra Cantu in Tracy, California, sources say the suspect is 28 years Melissa Huckaby, a neighbor whose daughter was a friend of Sandra. Melissa was accused of kidnapping and murder.
In a telephone interview on Friday Melissa said that the CBS station Kpix Sandra visited her home March 27, the day he disappeared. Melissa Huckaby also said he had left a bag on the street that day and had disappeared. Sandra’s body was found 10 days after it disappeared, stuffed in a suitcase and thrown into the pond of a farm.
Melissa is the granddaughter of the pastor of a church which has been extensively searched Friday by police investigators. Melissa teaches Sunday school at church, according to the Associated Press. Shortly after the search, Melissa led her to the police station where he was interviewed before the start of Saturday morning.
Kpix reports at 2:25 am, police conducted Melissa its headquarters in an unmarked car, went to the prison of San Joaquin, where they are registered on charges of kidnapping and murder. “We have information that at the moment (Sandra Cantu) was reported missing to us, who had already been killed,” said Police Chief Janet Thiessen Kpix. She has no details on the death of Sandra, or a possible motive.
Melissa Huckaby also reported that recently was convicted of theft in San Joaquin. According to court documents, the judge ordered to be examined by doctors after HUCKABY argued he was not mentally fit to stand trial. It was determined he was competent and had pleaded guilty.
Melissa was convicted in November 2006, for robbery in the Superior Court of Bellflower in Los Angeles County. Cantu left the disappearance of the city of Tracy on the edge, wondering how a girl could disappear so close to home.
The last time Sandra saw her mother alive, she went outside to play with friends, and surveillance video taken at the park Sandra was happy to jump into the trailer park.
